Switzerland

Located in central Europe, Switzerland is home to part of the Alps as well as many different ethnic groups and official languages. Germans constitute the majority at 65% of the population, while French and Italians make up 18% and 10%, respectively. A trip to Switzerland compares to travelling in Germany, Italy and France without leaving the country! A fine example of this is, at lunchtime you can indulge in Wiener schnitzel and beer at a German-owned biergarten, and for dinner you have the option of enjoying fine Italian merlot with pasta at a granite grotto. Combined with this Switzerland is known as a summer and winter sports paradise, alpine peaks reaching more than 13,123 feet (4,000m) and many picturesque lakes are favourable for various outdoor activities.

Readily available is one Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospital in Switzerland located in Locarno, however there are other major private hospitals located in Lausanne, Berne, and Geneva. Prices in Switzerland are not always as cost effective as other destinations, as this is home to many world famous cosmetic surgeons (also known as artists). Switzerland is quickly becoming a popular place for medical tourism due to its luxurious, personalised care and world famous medical spas which are proven to be conducive to the healing process.

Popular procedures sought by medical tourists are medical spa treatments, cosmetic surgery, IVF treatment, neurosurgery, obesity surgery, and orthopaedic surgery. However, Swiss hospitals also offer many other procedures including dentistry, laser eye surgery, and laser hair removal.

Climate

Switzerland is located within a temperate climatic zone. In the West and Northwest the influence of the temperate Atlantic climate is evidently more intense. Whilst in the East the influence of the continental climate with latitude of 47 north, is moderate and generally agreeable. Temperature depends largely on altitude, with averages of 5°C lower for each additional 300 m of elevation. Summers can be hot, with temperatures sometimes reaching 30°C or more, summer evenings are usually quite cool. Weather conditions vary only slightly across the country, the lowland regions in the North and East have more continental influenced conditions with colder winters and hotter summers. The South eastern areas of Switzerland have longer and warmer, almost Mediterranean-like summers. Be aware that whatever the season, if you're at a high altitude, the weather can change very quickly and dramatically.
